Sodium sulfite is an inorganic compound. It is a white granular powder at room temperature, has the smell of sulfur dioxide, is stable when dry, and is sensitive to moisture. Soluble in water and glycerin, insoluble in ethanol, the aqueous solution is alkaline, and its aqueous solution is alkaline to litmus paper and phenolphthalein. It reacts with acid to produce toxic sulfur dioxide gas. The pH of 1% aqueous solution is 8.3~9.4, and it has strong reduction sex. It decomposes into sodium sulfide and sodium sulfate when heated, and gradually oxidizes to sodium sulfate when placed in the air. It exists in three forms in nature: anhydrous sodium sulfite, sodium sulfite heptahydrate, and sodium sulfite decahydrate. Among them, anhydrous sodium sulfite is the least susceptible to oxidation.
preparation:
Sodium sulfite can be produced by passing sulfur dioxide into a sodium hydroxide solution. When sulfur dioxide is excessive, sodium bisulfite is generated. Or pass sulfur dioxide gas into the sodium carbonate solution, add sodium carbonate solution after it is saturated, and obtain heptahydrate crystals through crystallization, and then heat and dehydrate to obtain anhydrous sodium sulfite.
Chemical properties: Colorless monoclinic crystal. Easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution exhibits an alkaline reaction; insoluble in ethanol.
application:
Anhydrous sodium sulfite can be used as a developer, the preparation of cellulose sulfite ester, the preparation of sodium thiosulfate, a preservative for dried fruits and meat, a deoxidizer in the printing and dyeing industry, and a reducing chemical reagent, used in chemical and Production and synthesis in the laboratory.
Use:
Anhydrous sodium sulfite can be used as artificial fiber stabilizer, fabric bleach, photographic developer, dyeing and bleaching deoxidizer, spice and dye reducing agent, papermaking lignin remover, etc. It can be used as deoxidizer and bleaching agent in the printing and dyeing industry. For the scouring of various cotton fabrics, it can prevent the local oxidation of cotton fibers and affect the fiber strength, and improve the whiteness of the scouring products.
It can also be used to make cellulose sulfite, sodium thiosulfate, organic chemicals, bleached fabrics, etc., and is also used as a reducing agent, preservative, dechlorination agent, etc.
It is used for trace analysis and determination of tellurium and niobium and the preparation of developer solutions. It is also used as a reducing agent and as a developer in the photosensitive industry.
In the organic industry, it is used as a reducing agent in the production of m-phenylenediamine, 2,5-dichloropyrazolone, anthraquinone-1-sulfonic acid, 1-aminoanthraquinone, sodium aminosalicylate, etc. to prevent semi-finished products during the reaction process. Oxidation. Used as reducing agent in the production of dehydrated vegetables.
Used as lignin remover in paper industry.
In the textile industry it is used as a stabilizer for man-made fibers.
Used as general analytical reagents and photoresistor materials, and used in the electronics industry to manufacture photoresistors.
The water treatment industry is used for the treatment of electroplating wastewater and drinking water.
production method:
The absorption method uses food-grade soda ash solution to absorb sulfur dioxide, saturates it, then adds refined sodium hydroxide solution, and obtains crystallized sodium sulfite through crystallization, which is then heated and dehydrated to obtain edible anhydrous sodium sulfite.
